ABOUT US
Why Work With
Invivo Psychology
Because therapy shouldn’t just feel good—it should create real change.
You want to feel better—not just during sessions, but in your daily life.
At Invivo Psychology, we focus on therapy that helps you do exactly that: feel stronger, clearer, and more in control in the moments that matter most.
Our name, Invivo (pronounced in VEE-voh), comes from the Latin in vivo, meaning “in real life.” In psychology, in vivo exposure is a powerful CBT technique where growth happens by facing challenges directly—in the real world, not just in theory. That’s the foundation of our work.
We use practical, evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and solution-focused therapy to help you make meaningful, lasting change.
You’ll work with a compassionate, psychologist-led team who brings both warmth and expertise to every session. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, stress, burnout, depression, relationship challenges, or big life transitions, we’ll help you move forward with strategies that are grounded, effective, and tailored to you.
Because therapy isn’t just about talking.
It’s about doing.
And real growth happens in vivo.
At Invivo Psychology in Yorkville, Toronto, we believe that real change is possible.

Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect once I reach out to schedule a therapy appointment?
Once you reach out, someone from our team will follow up to help you take the next step. We’ll answer any initial questions, learn a little about what you’re looking for, and help you book either a complimentary 20-minute consultation or your first appointment.
We’ll also guide you through any intake forms and let you know what to expect before your first session. Our goal is to make the process feel straightforward and supportive, not overwhelming.
If you’re feeling unsure or have questions along the way, you’re always welcome to ask. We’re here to help make getting started feel as easy as possible.
If you prefer, you can also book directly online for a consultation or first appointment.
What can I expect in my first therapy session?
The first session is a chance for us to get to know you and understand what’s been bringing you in. Your therapist will take time to listen to what’s been going on, what’s been feeling most challenging, and what you’re hoping might change.
We’ll talk about your concerns, any relevant background, and the patterns you’ve been noticing in your day-to-day life. You’ll also have space to ask questions and get a feel for what working together might be like.
By the end of the session, we’ll begin to clarify goals and talk through what support could be most helpful moving forward. The focus is on creating a plan that feels thoughtful, supportive, and realistic for you.
How long does therapy take?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. The length of therapy depends on your goals and what you are working through. Some people attend therapy for a focused period of a few months, while others choose longer-term support.
Your therapist will talk with you early on about what feels most helpful and check in along the way so therapy continues to feel useful and in line with your goals.
How much does therapy cost at Invivo Psychology?
Our session fees typically range from $210 to $300 for psychotherapy, depending on the service and the clinician you work with.
Psychological assessment fees vary depending on the type and complexity of the assessment. We review estimated costs with you in advance so you know what to expect.
If you have questions about fees or are unsure which service is the right fit, we’re happy to help.
Do you accept insurance for therapy?
Payment is processed securely through our online system at the end of each session. We currently accept major credit cards.
Psychotherapy and psychological services provided in private practice are not covered by OHIP. However, many extended health or workplace insurance plans provide coverage for services with licensed psychologists, psychological associates, registered social workers, or registered psychotherapists. Coverage varies by plan, so we recommend checking directly with your insurer.
At Invivo Psychology, some services may also be provided by clinicians working under the supervision of a psychologist as part of our psychologist-led care model. Insurance coverage for supervised services can vary by plan, so we recommend confirming the details with your insurer.
After each session, you’ll receive a detailed receipt that you can submit for reimbursement. At this time, we do not bill insurance providers directly.
If any portion of your fees is not covered, these services may also be eligible as a medical expense for income tax purposes. We recommend confirming eligibility with your insurer or tax professional.
Is psychotherapy covered by OHIP in Ontario?
This is a common question.
In most cases, psychotherapy provided by psychologists, social workers or psychotherapists in private practice is not covered by OHIP.
OHIP may cover mental health services when they are provided within a hospital or publicly funded program, including services delivered by psychologists or other mental health professionals. Access to these services often involves long wait times and specific eligibility requirements.
Many people choose private practice because it allows them to access care sooner and with more flexibility. Extended health insurance plans often cover psychotherapy with a psychologist or registered psychotherapist, though coverage varies by plan. It’s a good idea to check directly with your insurer.
After each session, we provide a detailed receipt that you can submit for any reimbursement you may have under your insurance plan.
What is your policy for cancelled or missed sessions?
We aim to provide thoughtful, consistent care while also respecting the time of our clients and clinicians.
If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, we ask for at least 48 hours’ notice.
Sessions that are missed, or cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice, are charged at the full session fee. This allows us to hold that time for you and ensures fairness across our practice.
We understand that unexpected situations can arise. If something genuinely unavoidable comes up, we’re open to reviewing individual circumstances on a case-by-case basis.
Do you work with people experiencing burnout from work or personal stress?
Yes. Many of the people we work with are dealing with burnout related to work, ongoing stress, or personal responsibilities that have started to feel overwhelming.
Burnout can show up in different ways, including exhaustion, irritability, difficulty concentrating, loss of motivation, or feeling emotionally flat or overwhelmed. For some people, it builds gradually. For others, it follows a period of prolonged pressure or increased responsibility.
Through psychotherapy, we help you understand what’s driving your stress or burnout and how it’s affecting your thoughts, emotions, and day-to-day functioning. From there, we work together to develop practical strategies to reduce pressure, set more workable boundaries, and support recovery in a way that fits your real life.
You don’t have to keep pushing through on your own. With the right support, things can begin to feel more manageable again.
What is the difference between virtual and hybrid therapy sessions?
We offer both virtual and in-person therapy options so you can choose what works best for you.
Virtual therapy sessions take place by secure video or telephone at our Toronto practice. Many clients appreciate the flexibility of meeting remotely, especially when balancing work, family, or a busy schedule. There is no commute or waiting room, and you can meet from the comfort and privacy of your own space.
Hybrid therapy combines in-person and virtual sessions. Some people prefer to begin with face-to-face sessions to build connection, then shift to virtual appointments later on. Others move between in-person and virtual sessions at different points in therapy, depending on their schedule and what feels most helpful at the time.
We’ll talk with you about your preferences and help you decide which option fits best with your needs and day-to-day life.
What’s the difference between a psychologist and a psychotherapist, and which one is right for me?
Both provide psychotherapy, but they differ in training and scope of practice.
A Psychologist (C.Psych) or Psychological Associate is regulated by the College of Psychologists of Ontario and has extensive training in evidence-based psychotherapy and psychological assessment. They can provide diagnosis and formal psychological assessments, in addition to psychotherapy.
A Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and many Registered Social Workers (RSW) provide psychotherapy using evidence-based approaches, but they do not provide diagnoses or formal psychological assessments.
Which option is right for you? It depends on your needs.
If you’re looking for diagnostic clarity, a formal psychological assessment, or collaboration with a physician or other specialist, a psychologist (or psychological associate) may be the best fit.
If your goal is psychotherapy focused on emotional concerns, patterns, or building practical skills, both psychologists and psychotherapists offer excellent care.
If you’re unsure where to start, our team includes psychologists, psychological associates, and registered psychotherapists working within a psychologist-led model of care. We’re happy to help you decide what would be most helpful for you
How do I know whether I need psychotherapy, psychological assessments, or both?
Many people aren’t sure which is the best place to start, and that’s completely understandable.
Psychotherapy (also known as therapy) is often helpful when you’re looking to understand patterns, manage symptoms such as anxiety, stress, burnout, or low mood, and create meaningful change over time. For many clients, therapy alone is the right starting point.
Psychological assessment can be helpful when there is uncertainty about what’s going on, questions about diagnosis, or when clearer information would guide treatment or next steps. This might include questions about ADHD in adulthood, patterns related to mood changes or anxiety, or the need for documentation for workplace or university accommodations.
Assessment is more structured and may include interviews, standardized measures, and clinical feedback.
In some cases, therapy and assessment can be combined. If you’re unsure what would be most helpful, we can talk it through and help you decide together.
Do you work with teens as well as adults?
Yes. Our practice currently works primarily with adults, and some of our therapists also work with older teens, generally ages 15 and up. Availability and fit can vary depending on the clinician and the concerns involved. If you’re unsure what might make the most sense, feel free to reach out and we’ll be happy to help guide you.
